Portugal Uncertain of Nigeria's Gas Supply Reliability

Portugal warns of gas shortages if flows from Nigeria fall short of planned volumes its environment and energy minister said.

  • "there is a risk of it not complying" Duarte Cordeiro said about Nigeria meeting its gas delivery commitments to Portugal.
  • "From one day to another, we may have a problem, such as not being supplied the volume of gas that is planned," he added.
  • Portugal last year imported 2.8 billion cubic meters of LNG from Nigeria, or 49.5% of total imports, while the United States was the second-largest supplier with a share of 33.3%.
  • Nigeria’s reliability as a fossil fuel supplier has tumbled due to persistent theft and vandalism issues.
