POWER: Denmark Adopts New Plan for North Sea Offshore Wind Farms

The Danish energy agency has adopted a new plan for future offshore wind farms in the North Sea I area, setting the framework for the number of turbines, capacity, and connection, it said.

  • The plan sets the minimum and maximum capacity in the area between 5-17.4GW and is divided into two sub-areas – “Sub Area 1 and Sub Area 2
  • Additionally, it includes the possibility of grid connection points that can receive a minimum of 3GW – 1GW at Idomlund and 2GW at Endrup (west coast of Denmark).
  • The first three offshore wind farms in the A1-A3 in sub-area 1, were put out to tender on 22 April, with the deadline set for 5 December.  The tender for sub-area 2 has not been launched as yet.
  • The wind farms are expected to be operational by the end of 2030 at the latest.
