French December power is retreating today with forecasts pointing to milder weather in December. French spot power is expected to rise amid higher demand and lower wind output. 

  • France Base Power DEC 24 down 2.2% at 95.4 EUR/MWh
  • EUA DEC 24 down 1.3% at 68.35 EUR/MT
  • TTF Gas DEC 24 down 2.4% at 46.06 EUR/MWh
  • Nuclear availability in France rose to 85% of capacity on Wednesday morning, up from 82% on Tuesday, RTE data showed, cited by Reuters.
  • The unplanned outage at 915MW St Laurent 2 has been extended 28 November 06:30CET, after which the reactor will ramp up. Planned maintenance at 915MW Tricastin 3 has been extended by two days until 3 December.
  • The latest 6-10 day ECMWF weather forecast for Paris suggested mean temperatures have been further revised up on the day to be above normal for most days except 28 November until 1 December.
  • Mean temperatures in Paris are forecast to fall to 5.7C on Thursday, down from 10.4C on Wednesday and below the seasonal average of 6.2C.
  • Power demand in France is forecast rise to 58.73GW on Thursday, up from 56.35GW on Wednesday according to Bloomberg.
  • Wind output in France is forecast to fall sharply to 2.46GW during base load on Thursday, down from 9.42GW forecasted for Wednesday. Solar PV output is also forecast to fall to 3.9GW during peak load on Thursday, down from 4.3GW forecasted for Wednesday according to SpotRenewables.
  • Residual load in France is forecast to rise by 6.82GW/h on the day according to Reuters.
  • France’s hydro balance has been revised higher on the day to end at 1.16TWh on 11 December, compared with 948GWh forecasted a day earlier.
