POWER: French December Down 2.6% on Week

French December power is following a similar trend as neighbouring Germany today with forecasts still suggesting milder weather in Paris heading into mid-December, with somewhat firm wind in France next week weighing down the front week – adding further downward pressure on the monthly contract. The contract is down 2.68% on the week compared to its previous settled price last Friday.

- Nuclear availability in France was at 82% of capacity on Friday morning unchanged on the day, RTE data showed, cited by Bloomberg.
- The outage at 1.31GW Nogent 2 is still expected to end on 29 Nov, with the 915MW St.Laurent 2 coming back online the same day.
- The latest 6-10 day ECMWF weather forecast for Paris suggests mean temperatures have been revised up on the day over 29 Nov-4 Dec to be above normal for most days over 1-10 December.
- Mean temperatures in Paris are forecast to fall to 3.48C on Saturday from 4.05C on Friday and below the seasonal average of 6.1C.
- Power demand in France is forecast to fall to 57.67GW on Saturday from 60.36GW on Friday according to Bloomberg.
- Wind output in France is forecast to fall to 2.25GW during base load on Saturday, down from 4.90GW forecasted for Friday. Solar PV output is also forecast to fall to 1.62GW during peak load on Saturday, down from 4.77GW forecasted for Friday according to SpotRenewables.
- France’s hydro balance has been revised lower on the day to end at 1.29TWh on 13 December, compared with 1.31TWh forecasted a day earlier.
