POWER: German Trade Union Calls for Protective Measures in Wind Sector

German trade union IG Metall and Siemens Energy are asking for the German government to adopt corporate strategies and alter purchasing policies in the wind sector to protect them from Chinese competition, IG Metall said.

  • Additionally, representatives are asking for an quick implementation of the European Net Zero Industry Act to protect domestic jobs and value creation.
  • The problem is stemming from the fact that the Chinese government heavily supports its wind developers – which distorts the competition, according to IG Metall.
  • And recently a preliminary contract to supply 16 wind turbines for Germany’s 270MW WaterKant offshore wind project by a Chinese manufacturer was done – enabling the first Chinese suppliers to enter the market – IG Metall added.
