Power Outages in Kazakhstan Weigh on Oil Output

Kazakhstan reduced daily oil production since 11 August after a power outage at the Mangistau power station forced the plant to shut down according to Energy Ministry’s unit data.

  • The country’s daily crude oil and gas condensate output fell to 220.4k metric tons on 11 August, from 232k tons on 10 August, the day before the shutdown of a unit. Oil output fell further to 215k tons on 13 August.
  • Kazakhstan will make daily restriction for industrial companies until restoration works are completed.
  • A different unit at the same power station caused similar issues last month.
