POWER: Spanish Hydro Stocks Unchanged at 51.1% of Capacity

Spanish hydropower reserves last week - calendar week 47 – were stable at 51.1% of capacity according to data from Spain’s Environmental Ministry.
- Spanish hydropower generation from reservoirs last week declined by 377MW to 1.83GW. Run-of-river generation was broadly stable on the week at 852MW. Output from pumped storage decreased by 305MW to 625MW.
- Nuclear generation in Spain last week declined by 412MW to 4.72GW – the lowest since late May.
- Endesa’s 996MW Asco 1 nuclear reactor is scheduled to undergo planned maintenance until 19 December. Endesa’s 992MW GW Ascó 2 was offline on 11 and is currently scheduled to return on 14 December. Iberdrola’s 1.06GW Cofrentes nuclear reactor had an unplanned outage on 22 November. The unit restarted on 25 November.
- Gas-fired generation last week edged up by 120MW to 6.09GW.
- Wind output in Spain last week increased by 2.94GW to 10.55GW, while solar PV output was mostly stable on the week at 2.93GW.
- Power demand in Spain last week edged higher to 26.5GW, compared with 26.31GW the week before.
- The hydro-intensive region of Huesca so almost no precipitation last week. This compares to the seasonal average of 11.6mm for this time of year.
- Looking ahead, the latest ECMWF forecast suggested precipitation in Huesca to be below normal at 4.8mm, with seasonal averages at 11.6mm.
- Mean temperatures in Madrid are forecast to above the seasonal normal for most days this week between 6.7C and 13.7C.
- Wind output in Spain for the remainder of this week is forecast at 2.14GW to 2.61GW during base-load hours.
