President Biden To Travel To Hawaii August 21

The White House has confirmed that President Biden will travel to Maui, Hawaii on August 21, "to meet with first responders, survivors, as well as federal, state, and local officials, in the wake of deadly wildfires on the island."

  • White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement: "The President continues to marshal a whole-of-government response to the deadly Maui fires, and he has committed to delivering everything that the people of Hawaii need..."
  • Biden has been subject to Republican criticism this week for appearing to dismiss reporter questions on the Hawaii fires, generating a flurry of negative publicity which may further impact his tepid approval rating.
  • Former President Trump posted on social media: “It is a disgraceful thing that Joe Biden refuses to help or comment on the tragedy in Maui, just as he refused to help or comment on the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.”
