President Boluarte Subject To First Impeachment Motion

PERU
  • A group of Peruvian leftist lawmakers submitted a “vacancy motion” to seek the impeachment of President Dina Boluarte, the first since she took office in December after the impeachment of former President Pedro Castillo, La Republica reported.
  • Late Wednesday, representatives of Peru Libre and other leftists groups presented the motion to discuss the impeachment of the president arguing “permanent moral incapacity,” a loose term that Peru’s constitution accepts as a cause to remove the leader from office.
  • On Wednesday, Boluarte indicated that the legitimate right to protest cannot undermine the foundations of institutionalism and peaceful coexistence.
  • Early elections that she has requested are the only way out of her country’s violent political crisis, Boluarte said in a video appearance before the Organization of American States’ Permanent Commission.
