President Duda Asks Parliament To Appoint Glapinski As Governor For Another 6 years

  • Polish President Andrzej Duda has asked parliament to appoint Adam Glapinski as central bank governor for another six years, citing his crisis-fighting efforts of the past two years (BBG).
  • 100K new Covid cases were reported over the weekend, with hospitalizations rising for a fourth consecutive day.
  • Last week, Polish Lower House of Parliament approved copper tax cut bill; the bill would cut copper tax by 30% from Jan. 1 to Nov. 30.
  • The bill now needs to go to Senate, before President Duda signs it into law.
  • On Thursday, NBP member Grażyna Ancyparowicz mentioned in an interview that NBP is likely to raise its policy rate by 50bps at the February's meeting (Feb 8).
