- It has been reported that Brazil's president-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva underwent vocal cord surgery to remove a lesion upon his return from a trip to Egypt and Portugal.
- 77-year-old Lula was admitted to hospital on Sunday and has already been discharged after the "laryngoplasty," the hospital said in a statement. Given Lula’s previous bout of throat cancer a decade ago, doctors added there were no new tumors present.
- "Good morning. I am already home after a small procedure yesterday. Everything is sorted out. I am fine, have a good week," Lula wrote on Telegram.
