Prigozhin’s Death is Unlikely to Impact Internal Russian Politics, Meduza Say

  • Yevgeny Prigozhin’s death is unlikely to impact internal Russian politics as his popularity has already waned, local newspaper Meduza report. One of Meduza’s sources close to the presidential administration said that the crash of Prigozhin’s plane “didn’t really surprise him” and that “there was a feeling that after the riot he would end up badly, this [in the Kremlin] is not forgiven.” However, some did not rule out that Prigozhin could have survived: “He is a trickster, a troll. He has informants in various structures, so we have to wait.”
  • Meduza’s sources say that those close to the presidential administration are confident that even if Prigozhin's death is confirmed, it will not seriously affect the domestic political situation. According to polls by the Levada Center, Prigozhin had already fallen out of the list of dozens of politicians whom Russians have declared their trust in.
  • Russia is lifting restrictions on dividend payments for foreigners investing into the country’s economy, Bloomberg report. Companies can now return profit to non-resident investors without restrictions, but the volume of those payments shouldn’t exceed the amount of their investment in Russia, the Finance Ministry said in a statement Wednesday. The previous limit on dividends was set at no more than 50% of the previous year’s profit, the ministry said.
