Prompt Diesel Spread in Asia Approaches Parity

The prompt diesel time spread in Asia has fallen to the narrowest backwardation since last June amid strong China and South Korea supplies to the region according to Bloomberg.

  • The prompt Singapore 10ppm sulfur gasoil spread has narrowed from $2.2/bbl in January to as low as 4c/bbl on Mar. 20 according to Bloomberg Fair Value data suggesting less bullish sentiment and healthier supplies.
  • Ample shipments from major exporters China and South Korea are outpacing demand, according to Bloomberg sources.
  • Gasoil-type exports from China are forecast to rise 20% y/y to 275kbpd in March, according to preliminary Kpler data.
  • The prompt European Gasoil spread has also fallen to the lowest since mid Jan at around 10$/mt from a high of over 35$/mt in February.
