Province Calls For U.S. Help Relating To Surging Fires

  • The governor of Corrientes province in Argentina has called on the US government for help to put out the fires that are raging through the region.
  • Some 7,852 square kilometres of forest, pastureland and swampland have been destroyed in the fires so far, according to the Argentinian government
  • The fires are spreading rapidly, consuming some 300 square kilometres each day, according to the latest data.
  • The Argentine government estimates the fires have caused economic damage amounting to 20 billion pesos ($184 million).
