Putin And Xi To Hold Call Tomorrow

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has told reporters that Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a video call with Chinese President Xi Jinping tomorrow to discuss bilateral and regional issues.

  • Russian business daily Vedomosti reported earlier this month that Putin and Xi would hold a call before year end to discuss the events of 2022.
  • Although Peskov has intimated that Putin and Xi are "in constant communication," the call will be the first offical commincation between the two leaders since the Shanghai Cooperation Organistation Summit in Uzbekistan in October where Putin was widely seen as failing to achieve the public support from Xi or Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
  • Former Russian President, and close Putin ally, Dmitry Medvedev met Xi earlier this month in Beijing where, according to China's state news agency Xinhua, Xi told Medvedev that China hopes all parties in the Ukraine crisis maintain restraint and resolve security concerns through political means.
