Putin: I Have Not Decided On Whether To Run For President Again In 2024

Speaking at his annual press conference, President Vladimir Putin says that he has not decided on whether to run for president again in 2024.

  • At present, Putin's current term ends in 2024.
  • Putin says that he has 'permission of the nation to run again'. This follows constitutional changes that came in this year after approval in a June-July referendum, and effectively re-sets the counter of how many terms Putin can serve at zero. The new constitution sees a total term limit of two six-year terms as president, meaning that if he was able to retain support, Putin could remain as Russian president until 2036.
