Putin: Relations With USA Are In A Deep Crisis

US-RUSSIA

Russian President Vladimir Putin has told US ambassador Lynne Tracey that "relations with the USA are in deep crisis," and "US support for the 2014 revolution in Ukraine led to today's situation," at a ceremony for foreign ambassadors in Moscow.

  • Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitri Peskov said Putin would make "a large, rather voluminous speech on foreign policy issues at the ceremony" which comes the day after Finland accession to NATO doubled NATO's border with Russia and drew warnings of "retaliatory measures" from Russia.
  • Some cautious optimism that China may act as a moderating force on Russia has receded this week with Chinese President Xi Jinping declining to engage with Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelensky and the killing of Russian pro-war blogger Vladlen Tatarsky compounding the prospect of retaliatory actions from Russia.
  • The US announced yesterday it will provide Kyiv with an additional USD$2.6 billion in military aid to assist a Ukrainian spring offensive.
  • President Biden urged French President Emmanuel Macron to press Beijing on hastening the end of the war as Macron begins a three day China trip with EU Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen.
