Putin Talks Up Relationship With China

Russia President Vladimir Putin has called Chinese President Xi Jinping "a friend" and talked up Russia's relationship with China in an ongoing Q&A session at the Valdai Discussion Club think tank in Moscow.

  • Putin: "Relations with China are unprecedentedly open and effective."
  • Putin: "Russia's trade with China has been rising."
  • Earlier this afternoon Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a call with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
  • The CCP linked Global Times wrote following the call: "China firmly supports Russia in leading its people under leadership of President Vladimir Putin to overcome difficulties, achieve the strategic goals of development and further establish Russia’s status as a major country in the international arena."
