Claims that "foreign companies are suffering big losses due to leaving the Russian market, though Russia has not lost out because of this." Putin: "Some foreign companies are leaving under pressure from their gov't."

  • Putin: "We have to strive for expansion of our companies on foreign markets, as well as being competitive."
  • The prospect of any significant growth in foreign business operations given the significant western sanctions imposed on the Russian economy limiting the number of countries that Russian firms can operate in. Much of the developed world is now inaccessible for Russian firms.
  • Moreover, many non-aligned emerging markets could prove reluctant to host Russian corporates, fearing a backlash from wealthy Western nations that could hit them with third party sanctions for being perceived to be supporting the Russian economy.
