CANADA DATA: Q1 business net income before taxes -38% to CAD74.3b, Statistics
Canada said Tuesday, and "COVID-19 had little impact" on the results.
-Oil and gas extraction and support activities led the decline, reporting a net
loss before taxes of CAD17.2 billion, down CAD17.9 billion from Q4 on lower oil
prices. Petroleum and coal products manufacturing reported a decrease of CAD5.3
billion.
-Financial sector decreased CAD11.2 billion to CAD24.9 billion.
-StatsCan said it changed measure of business profits in this report, from the
previous measure of operating profits. Data will be refined to allow more
comparable backcasting over the next year.
