  • The U.S. current account deficit widened by USD59 billion to USD170.5 billion in Q2, according to figures released Friday by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. Financial markets had expected the deficit to widen to USD160 billion.
  • That increase mostly reflects a growing deficit on goods and reduced surpluses on primary income and services, the BEA said.
  • The Q2 current account deficit accounts for 3.5% of current dollar GDP, up from 2.1% in Q1.
  • The Q1 deficit was revised up to USD111.5 billion (prev 104.2 billion).
