Q2 Earnings Solidly Ahead of Expectations

  • With the bulk of Q2 reports now filed, it's safe to say Q2 has been solidly better-than-expected. 86% of reports filed were better-than-expected on EPS, and 79% beat on sales.
  • On a sector-by-sector basis, energy names have been the biggest surprise to the upside. The average energy firm has beaten on EPS by 57%, while sales forecasts were topped by 25%.
  • Utilities have fared more poorly, with the sector missing expectations on revenue by 24%.
