Quarterly Public Finance Report Scheduled

  • Chile Finance Minister Mario Marcel presents the quarterly public finance report, the first since President Gabriel Boric took office, before a Senate committee - 10am local time.
  • Chile’s government will present four bills to Congress this week, including one to give Chileans some relief on rising inflation, President Gabriel Boric said in an interview with 24Horas earlier this week.
  • Separately, Chile’s Constitutional Convention will vote on several proposals involving the central bank.
  • Chile’s economic activity unexpectedly grew on a jump in mining. The Imacec index, a proxy for gross domestic product, rose 1.6% in March from the month prior, more than all estimates in a Bloomberg survey that had a -0.2% median forecast. From a year ago, activity increased 7.2%, the central bank reported on Monday.
  • BCCh decision is due on Thursday – as of writing the median estimate within the Bloomberg survey is calling for a 100bp rate hike to 8.00%, however there are varying forecasts following the slightly dovish shift by the BCCh. The full MNI preview will be published on Wednesday.
