Ramaphosa Joins Calls On De Ruyter, Cabinet Reshuffle Draws Nearer

  • President Cyril Ramaphosa joined his party's call on ousted Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter to back up his corruption allegations and report them to the police. De Ruyter caused a stir last week as he gave an explosive interview in which he accused high-level ANC officials of graft. The ruling party has since been urging de Ruyter to provide evidence of his claims or face legal action.
  • Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana was sworn in as an MP yesterday, which brings President Ramaphosa one step closer to announcing a Cabinet reshuffle. The leader is reportedly planning to appoint a non-MP to become the new Electricity Minister. Under the local law, the President can appoint no more than two people who are not MPs as ministers.
  • South Africa's Absa Manufacturing PMI for February is expected to print at 50.2 after coming in at 53.0 in January. The data will be published at 09:00GMT/11:00SAST.
