Ramaphosa Tightens Covid-19 Restrictions to Level 3

  • Ramaphosa moves SA to level 3 lockdown following a sustained rise in Covid cases with regulations taking effect immediately.
    • Gathering sizes were curbed to 50 people, curfew was brought earlier (10pm-4am) and alcohol purchases were limited to Mon-Thurs
  • Ramaphosa says SA has the capacity to vaccinate 150k people/day with a plan to increase to 250k/day in the near future.
    • Notes hospital admissions 59% higher in the last 14 days and new cases at 8,436 yesterday, while doctors warn of a shortage of beds in Gauteng
  • Suspended ANC SG Magahsule is still pressing for the step aside rule to be dropped, saying it is unconstitutional and that his suspension of Ramaphosa must be enforced. The mater will be heard in court next week (25-25 June)
  • Auto Association says SA may see a slight petrol price decrease in July at R0.06/L, but an increase in diesel of R0.2/L & R0.14/L in paraffin.
    • Notes that more upside in oil could see price increasing going ahead
