RBA Speak/Minutes And Job Data Highlights Of Week

This week there is some central bank activity with Governor Bullock speaking and the October minutes published. Also importantly for the next decision, September labour market data print.

  • Today RBA’s Assistant Governor Jones speaks at the AFR Cryptocurrency Summit at 1015 AEDT. The focus of the week is likely to be Governor Bullock’s “chat” on Wednesday at the AFSA annual summit panel at 930 AEDT. Head of International Department Smith will also speak on Wednesday at 1040 AEDT.
  • The RBA minutes are published on Tuesday and a discussion of a 25bp hike is likely to be a key focus point.
  • The Westpac leading indicator for September is released on Wednesday and has been signalling below trend growth for around a year. Q3 NAB business confidence prints on Thursday and may improve as the monthly data averaged +1 up from -1.2 in Q2.
  • On Thursday September employment data is out and is expected to show a modest increase of 20k after rising 64.9k. The unemployment rate is forecast to remain at 3.7% and the participation rate at 67%.
