Reliance Fuel Supplies to Europe Using Route Round Africa

Reliance Industries fuel supplies from its refining complex in India are mostly shipped to Europe via the Cape of Good Hope to avoid the Red Sea, according to Bloomberg shipping sources and ship tracking data.

  • Chartering contracts from Reliance offer the flexibility to tanker owners to go either way to Europe but most are opting for the African route, a shipping sources said.
  • Prior to the start of Houthi attacks, all tankers carrying fuel from Reliance Industries passed through Red Sea.
  • Since mid-February, at least eight tankers have taken the Cape of Good Hope route suppling jet fuel and diesel to Europe according to LSEG data.
  • Two refineries at Jamnagar have capacity to process about 1.4m barrels of oil per day.
