The Rhine closed to barge traffic at Maxau in southern Germany at around 9:30am local time on Tuesday, according to an official from the WSV waterway service.
- The closure means vessels moving goods from Rotterdam are blocked before they get to Switzerland.
- The barge clearance level at the Maxau measuring point is 752cm and levels rose above 750cm as of Tuesday, data from the WSV showed.
- Restrictions could be in place until this weekend, the official said.
