Freight rates for barges moving products such as diesel on the Rhine have climbed to a seven moth high, amid low water levels, according to Bloomberg.
- Current freight rates for gasoil barges on the Rhine to inland storage and refineries is EUR 55/mt, the highest since March 3.
- Water levels at the key chokepoint on the Rhine of Kaub are currently 72 cm, according to Bloomberg data, the lowest level since June 2022.
- Lower water levels reduce the maximum size of the cargo that can navigate the Rhine per barge, which boosts freight rates.
