Energy – What to watch
- The latest Baker Hughes rig count data is due for release at 18:00BST. Expectations are for an increase of 4 to 580 in oil and increase of 2 to 152 in gas rigs. The strong increase in rig counts from 2020 has not yet translated into a significant increase in actual production. The capital discipline of drillers, supply constraints and increased costs are limiting well completions.
- The ICE and Nymex commitment of traders reports will be released after the close today at 18:30BST and 15:30EST. Managed money net longs increased last week as the focus of the crude market moves has gradually turned towards the upside
