GLOBAL MARKET/OPINION
GLOBAL MARKET/OPINION: Risk-off moves accelerate in recent trade, with equities
plumbing new lows and a further bidtone being observed in the greenback as
Harris County, Texas declare a top-level emergency due to COVID-19. Adding
further fuel is a report in Dow Jones:
- "Chinese leaders have accused Washington of meddling in areas such as Hong
Kong, where China is imposing a sweeping national-security law, and Taiwan,
which Beijing considers as part of China."
- Follows the Senate unanimously passing a bill this week to sanction Chinese
officials, business and banks that "undermine HK's autonomy". Threat supposedly
made at meeting between Mike Pompeo and Yang Jiechi in Hawaii last week.
- Article also notes: "Mr. Pompeo didn't give any ground, said those briefed on
the talks."
- Treasury yields also circling new daily lows as headlines cross.
