Ruling Coalition Looks To Take Action On Constitutional Tribunal

POLAND
  • The ruling coalition is reportedly preparing to overhaul the Constitutional Tribunal, possibly as soon as this week, in another phase of its attempts to unwind the controversial measures taken by the previous administration. According to a DGP report, talks on the specific strategy are ongoing and another option would involve launching a larger legal overhaul at the next parliamentary session. Onet circulated a report noting that any such actions against the Constitutional Tribunal would be a "red line" for President Andrzej Duda, who would react with an unspecified full-scale confrontation with the government.
  • Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski admitted that the language around a potential war with Russia has changed in several European capitals. Separately, Deputy Prime Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said that he wants Poland to be prepared for every scenario, especially the worst ones.
  • The National Bank of Poland (NBP) will announce its rate decision on Wednesday, with Governor Adam Glapinski expected to hold his press conference on Thursday.
