Russia Diverts LNG Shipments to China via South Africa

Russia is diverting its LNG shipments to China via the Cape of Good Hope away from the Red Sea, which is adding ten days of travel time to reach their destinations in China and to sail back to the Yamal LNG project according to Reuters.

  • This is adding further struggles to Russian LNG exports, adding to issues with start up of Novatek’s Arctic 2 LNG terminal due to the lack of ships amid US sanctions.
  • No LNG vessels have sailed via the Suez Canal since mid-January, ship tracking data showed.
