Russia Launches Deadly Missile Barrage Across Ukrainian Cities Overnight

  • Russia fired missiles at Kyiv and other cities across Ukraine overnight, striking infrastructure facilities in one of the biggest barrages this year. Bloomberg report that at least five people have been killed and hundreds of thousands casted into blackouts. The new mix of weapons mostly evaded air defenses.
  • The attacks follow comments from US intelligence chiefs yesterday, who said Russia is likely to downgrade its ambitions in Ukraine to hanging onto territory seized after the start of its invasion. “We do not foresee the Russian military recovering enough this year to make major territorial gains,” Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines said. “Putin is likely better understanding the limits of what his military is capable of achieving and appears to be focused on more limited military objectives for now.”
  • The price of Russian crude and fuel is rising for buyers in Asia as a pool of bigger customers from China and India expands, Bloomberg report. Offer levels for Russia’s Urals and ESPO crude, as well as fuel oil, surged over the past weeks, according to traders with knowledge of the matter. Increased interest from Chinese state-owned and large private refiners, in addition to a jump in Indian demand, led cargoes to be snapped up at higher prices, they said.
