Russia Says It Has Not Seen Cases Of Oil Price Caps

The Russian government said it had not yet seen any cases of price caps on Russian oil, after researchers suggested the Kremlin has been suffering losses from the cap, a Kremlin spokesperson said.

  • "As far as the losses are concerned, no one has especially seen the caps yet," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
  • Russian Urals crude have been trading at 37.8$/bbl on 6 Jan, according to Argusmedia, well below the EU/G7 price cap at 60$/bbl and at a steep discount to other international oil benchmarks.
  • Finnish research institute CREA estimates lost revenue for Russia because of the price cap at $170mn/day with a likelihood to rise to $280mn/day once the price cap on refined products will come into effect on 5 Feb.
