Russian Crude Making Enormous Journey's

OIL

The Suezmax tanker Gladiator highlights the huge distance increases Russian oil is taking to market according to Kpler.

  • It left the Barents Sea December 31, after loading 1 million barrels of Varandey, a Russian crude grade. Today, after 12,400 nautical miles and 55 days a sea, it has discharged its cargo in China.
  • This is one of seven tankers to have made this enormous journey since December according to Kpler.
  • Before the EU import ban, 100% of exports of crude from the Russian Arctic were shipped to Europe, the US or Caribbean.
  • Since December 100% have gone to China and India. The increase in the average distance is between 4,000 and 10,000 nmi.
