Russian Diesel Exports Slumped Post Ban

Russian diesel exports fell by 57% after Moscow introduced the ban from 21 September, Vortexa data showed, cited by Bloomberg.

  • Observed outflows of diesel dropped to about 207kbpd from Sept. 21 until the end of the month. This compares to 479kbpd on 1-20 September.
  • Shipments of gasoil, which is excluded from the ban, and diesel together fell by 36% since the ban.
  • In contrast, Russian total petroleum products exports increased by around 7% on the month in September to 2.43mbpd, amid increased flows of naphtha, light-end product used to make gasoline, and dirtier fuel oil, often used in shipping and secondary refining feedstocks.
  • September naphtha exports soared by 64% month on month to 560kbpd, the highest level since March.
  • Fuel oil exports in September rose by 19% on the month to 763kbpd.
  • Exports of refinery feedstocks like vacuum gasoil rose to a four-month high of 128kbpd.
