Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Visits Iran Amid Nuclear Tensions

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has met Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi in Tehran today amid an increased tensions since the removal of IAEA monitoring equipment.

  • Al Jazeera: "The administration of President Ebrahim Raisi in Iran is continuing its push for regional diplomacy as tensions with the West over its nuclear programme continue to build up."
  • The Presidents of Kazakhstan, Venezuela, and Turkmenistan have all visited Tehran in the past week.
  • Lavrov will meet his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian and have another meeting with President Ebrahim Raisi tomorrow.
  • RIA reports that the JCPOA nuclear deal, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria, and bilateral relations will be discussed.
  • US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said yesterday that the Biden administration is “greatly concerned” by Iranian nuclear developments and the ongoing failure to reach an agreement to bring Tehran back into compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
