Russian Perm Rep: Prospect Of Sanctions Lifting Soon Is Real

IRAN

In a back-and-forth on twitter, Russia's Permanent Representative to International Organisations in Vienna (Russia's prime negotiator on the Iran nuclear deal) Mikhail Ulyanov states that "The perspective of sanctions lifting soon is real."

  • Full conversation:
    • Ulyanov tweets: "To my surprise some of my followers from #Iran have negative feelings about #IAEA video cameras at nuclear facilities. It's a wrong perception. Video surveillance will ease restoration of #JCPOA and sanctions lifting. The lack of video recording can create some difficulties."
    • A follower replies: "Rightfully so, Iran should play the hard game. There is no perspective of the sanctions being lifted anytime soon, and Iran will use the camera issue just as a leverage in the negotiations. Does it help Iranian ends? We shall see!"
    • Ulyanov replies: "I categorically disagree with you on one major point. The perspective of sanctions lifting soon is real. For this to happen we need to finalise a draft decision on restoration of #JCPOA. At the end of the sixth round of the #ViennaTalks in June this goal was already within reach."
