Russian Urals STS Transfers Almost Slow to Halt

The transfer of Russia’s Urals oil at sea via ship-to-ship, a key part of the nation’s petroleum supply chain since the invasion of Ukraine has almost slowed to a halt.

  • There has been just one STS so far in July — a small switch of about 140,000 barrels — according to Bloomberg tracking, compared to 14 last month.
  • Regulatory scrutiny and cheaper freight are likely contributing factors.
