Russia’s Novatek Resumes STS Operations for LNG

Russia’s Novatek resumed ship-to-ship operations for LNG exports in the Murmansk region, Kpler data showed, cited by Komersant.

  • STS operations in the region cut costs due to less use of the costly Arctic class tankers. Novatek has not used any STS transfers since June.
  • Novatek unloads the LNG from ice-class tankers onto more conventional gas carriers.
  • In this case, the company used Arc7 class tanker Nikolay Urvantsev and LNG Dubhe tanker for the operations near the Kildin island in the Murmansk region, after which the LNG is likely to be delivered to China via the Suez Canal.
