Russia’s Sakhalin-2 Offline for Planned Works Until End-July

LNG

The Sakhalin-2 LNG plant began planned maintenance in late June and will be offline until at least the end of July, sources told Bloomberg.

  • A lack of cargoes exported from Sakhalin-2 will likely have the largest effect on Japan, with the North Asia nation’s utilities holding several offtake agreements totalling around 5m mtpa from the Russian island.
  • Temperatures in Tokyo for the next two weeks have shifted higher, which could be supportive for natural gas demand.
  • Sakhalin-LNG 2 exported 10.37m mt in 2024, 59.5% went to Japan, 24.8% to China, and 15.7% to South Korea, according to Platts.
