SAGBs Tread Water As TRY Volatility Sparks Contagion

SOUTH AFRICA
  • SAGBs tread water around the open, little changed after yesterday's broadly weaker session.
  • Rising UST yields combined with contagion from the lira crisis kept SAGBs on the backfoot with 10-30Y yields closing +7.4-9.0bp higher on the day.
  • 10y yields found resistance at 10.20 (Nov highs), while 30y yields pulled back from the 10.90 level. Meanwhile 2Y yields have remained relatively stable around the 5.30 level.
  • In line with its EM peers and shaky global risk sentiment, SA's 5Y CDS has gradually ticked higher this week – now trading just short of the October highs at 226.
