Sanctions Against Russia Harming Europe: Orban

EU sanctions against Russia are hurting Europe according to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban today.

  • "China is winning, America is not losing and Europe is suffering," Orban said, "European politics shot itself in the lungs and not in the foot, so it’s suffocating now".
  • "There will be no gas in some countries, while other countries will have gas, but it will be very expensive," he added.
  • Hungary declared a state of emergency on Wednesday announcing it would halt gas exports to neighbouring countries. Hungary also said measures would be taken to boost domestic gas output by 33%, from 1.5 billion cubic metres (bcm) to 2 bcm.
