SARB Decides On Rates This Week, Eskom Implements Stage 2 Loadshedding

  • The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) will announce its rate decision during a press conference on Thursday. It will be made by a four-member Committee following the departure of Deputy Governor Kuben Naidoo. Prior to that, Statistics SA will publish local inflation data (CPI on Wednesday & PPI on Thursday) for December.
  • Eskom yesterday announced that "loadshedding will be suspended again from 22:00 until 05:00 on Monday when Stage 2 loadshedding will resume until further notice" with any significant changes to be communicated in due course.
  • BusinessTech circulated a piece suggesting that "the only reason the country isn’t experiencing an average of stage 5 loadshedding at the moment is due to much lower user demand," even as frequent outages continue.
