Saudi Arabia is boosting crude oil exports via the Muaajjiz terminal in order to bypass the Bab El-Mandam strait amid ongoing Houthi rebel attacks, Kpler data showed.

  • The world’s leading P&I clubs, that collectively insure 90% of global ocean tonnage, cancelled the basic war risk cover in the Bab El-Mandab strait.
  • The repercussions are particularly felt in Saudi terminals, heavily reliant on fuel imports passing through the strait according to Kpler.
  • Saudi Arabia decided to boost crude oil exports via the Muajjiz terminal (see chart) to bypass the strait, showing how trade flows are adjusting amid Red Sea tensions.
