EU

Reuters reporting comments from German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stating that, "the aim of EU summit next week is for all EU states to agree to financial aid for Ukraine."

  • Scholz said in an interview with Die Zeit today: "The contributions that the European states have so far earmarked for 2024 are not yet large enough. Europe must discuss what each country can contribute so that we can significantly increase our support... • Bloomberg reports that EU leaders are expected to press ahead with a 50 billion euro Ukraine aid package even if Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban continues to oppose the package.
  • Bloomberg: "Officials told us that if Orban continues, an escalation is on the cards — including launching the next stage of penalty measures against Budapest."
