SCOTUS Ruling On Student Loan Forgiveness Could Come Today

US

The United States Supreme Court may issue a ruling on President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan today. SCOTUS opinions are issued on a Thursday and will be posted HERE.

  • The Hill reports: “On the Democratic side, the issue is already getting heated, as activists are losing hope the conservative-majority court will rule in favor of Biden’s proposal...”
  • CNBC: "There’s no precedent for the kind of sweeping debt forgiveness the Biden administration is trying to carry out. And at an estimated cost of $400 billion, the policy would be among the most expensive executive actions in U.S. history."
  • The Hill notes that Republican lawmakers are readying their own proposal, to “increase transparency in financial aid offers from colleges and consolidate student loan repayment options to make the system easier to navigate,” if the panel strikes down Biden’s plan.
  • Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) said: “Unlike President Biden’s student loan schemes, this plan addresses the root causes of the student debt crisis. It puts downward pressure on tuition and empowers students to make the educational decisions that put them on track to academically and financially succeed.”
