European Commission Exec VP Maros Sefcovic is set to speak on the status of EU-UK relations this morning as part of the EU-UK Forum annual conference. Sefcovic due to speak from 0950BST (0450ET, 1050CET). His speech will be followed by the most senior UK gov't official attending, Paymaster General and Cabinet Office minister Michael Ellis.
- Speaking at an event in London last night, Sefcovic seemed downbeat on the prospect of more negotiations taking place while the Northern Ireland Protocol bill was still going through parliament. Politico reports Sefcovic stating that “You’re not going to negotiate when you have a gun on the table,” adding that “This is surely the moment to abandon the chronic trend of non-implementation and unilateral surprises that has emerged from the UK side”.
