Senate Approval Of Fuel Bill Is Win For AMLO, Retail Sales Due

  • Mexico's senate passed a bill in general terms that would reform the country's hydrocarbons law to give the government more control over the fuel market.
    • Bill will now be signed off by AMLO – passing senate definitely a win for President.
    • Reminder yesterday, Mexican antitrust filed a constitutional challenge vs power bill.
  • In other news, AMLO made a strong push for his tree-planting program, trying to get the United States on board to fund a massive expansion of the program into Central America as a way to stem migration.
    • He suggested the U.S. government offer temporary work visas and eventually citizenship to those who take part in the program.
